Explore gothic places to visit

Whether it’s the antique furniture you’ve piled against the door or the deranged and distant family member you swore to keep an eye on, it’s not always easy to get out of the house. So, allow the Gothic Dispatch to visit gothic places on your behalf.

Here, you’ll find gothic places to visit organised by country – like England or France – and by type – like those with links to gothic literature or built in a gothic architectural style. It is my intention to use this page to keep a complete and organised collection of dispatches. I’ll update it for as long as I am able to elude the authorities, so check back when you can.

Explore by country

France

The home of gothic architecture promises cathedrals that reach high – and catacombs that plunge far below.

A grainy black and white photo of Reims Cathedral from the south-west corner. The towers, excessively decorated, reach into the clear sky and out of the top of the frame.

Architecture

The “barbarous” style is most commonly found in religious buildings – places of ritual and reminders of mortality.
